It came set up as a guitar-mandolin hybrid, but the high strings paired with lower end strings don't work well and makes the sound kind of overwhelming on the high side. So since I have some luthiery skills I was able to carve out the nut, restring it, and set it up as a true 12 string mandolin with equal matching string pairs at 10-10-14-14-24-24-38-38-48-48-59-59. Now it has the range of a guitar accessible in one comfortable, easy position, is more comfortable to sit with, sounds unique and amazing, and I feel like I've finally found my home as a musician. You will want to exchange the 14-1 tuners for a higher ratio though, if you can. So as it comes it's nearly unplayable and unbearable to listen to for long, but set it up like that the concept comes alive and it's low key life changing. Yes, it takes a while to get thestrings settled into tune. I can live with that, I love my 12 sting mandolin now.

great quality, but I would prefer if it was a 6 string

This is a very high quality mandolin. The fretwork is perfect, the action is set perfectly. But one thing you will notice in the close-up photos is that unlike normal mandolins that have double strings of the same gauge, this a thin upper string in each pair of strings. I dont like this and I just removed the thin strings and play it as a 6 string. I wish that they would just make this as a 6 string. Gold Tone also makes 6 string F-shape mandolin like this, but for a higher price.
